Highlights

This boutique hotel — set just a block back from iconic Lake Wakatipu — feels like a deliciously indulgent secret. Step inside The Spire Hotel Queenstown and be transported to a world of five-star luxury, where the mountainous glory of The Remarkables and Coronet Peak is just a short drive away and the cosmopolitan buzz of Queenstown awaits just beyond the glass door.

What You’ll Love…

The Hotel — Possibly Queenstown’s best-kept secret…

Tucked away behind the grey-stone grandeur of St. Peter’s spire — the inspiration behind the hotel’s name — hidden on a discreet, Melbourne-style laneway and framed by world-class restaurants, The Spire Hotel Queenstown is possibly the city’s best-kept secret.

Those lucky enough to find this hidden gem and its unassuming, somewhat concealed entrance, will be transported to a world of understated luxury. From the exclusive 10 suites to the dark-stained timber finishes and 16-seat gourmet restaurant, No5 Church Lane, The Spire Hotel Queenstown offers a stay that is refreshingly intimate, with service that feels truly bespoke.

The Location — The perfect position in Queenstown

Enjoy a privileged location within a two-minute walk of glittering Lake Wakatipu. Discover some of the city’s fine dining at your doorstep; the Botswana Butchery, where you must book months in advance, and the world-renowned Fergburger, a burger joint open 21 hours a day, are both under five minutes’ walk away.

As for adventure, it doesn’t get much better than this: the Skyline Gondola is within a 10-minute walk, Glenorchy’s Middle Earth-worthy hikes are a 45-minute drive away, the lift line of Coronet Peak and The Remarkables are under 40 minutes’ drive and Otago vineyards less than a 20-minute drive.

The Suite — Five-star sophistication and relaxation

Sink into the calm of designer comfort in your private Suite, featuring a bold red-white-black colour palette and elegant furnishings: a king bed, leather recliner and chaise with a snug blanket, and a private balcony with city or garden views.

The ultimate reprieve from the chilly Queenstown winters, this boutique haven invites you to enjoy 65sqm of space, get cosy in front of the stone-clad fireplace and enjoy a luxuriously late 1pm checkout on your final day, subject to availability.

Food & Drinks — Daily à la carte breakfast, one daily drink per adult and NZ$50 food and drink credit per suite

Enjoy a dining experience that ranks amid the best in Queenstown at No5 Church Lane. Seating just 16 guests, this acclaimed restaurant will treat you to a decadent affair every morning with à la carte breakfast options such as ANZAC biscuit porridge with grilled banana and No5 Big Breakfast with eggs cooked to your liking, Havoc bacon, mushrooms, slow-roasted tomato, sausage and potato rosti.

Return to the restaurant’s understated elegance — we recommend snagging a seat by the fireplace — and enjoy your choice of one daily glass of wine, beer or soft drink per person.

Why not treat yourself to a dinner of sharing dishes with your NZ$50 food and drink credit? Dishes could include crispy-fried banana blossoms drizzled with fermented hot sauce and vegan aioli, torched soy-marinated salmon and smoked fish pie with wild watercress oil.

Can’t decide? Let Head Chef Trent Watson lead you through a culinary experience of award-winning dishes, featuring a canapé, entrée, main, side and dessert for just NZ$55 per person (additional costs apply).

Longer stay bonus: Stay five or seven nights and you’ll receive NZ$100 food and drink credit per suite to spend at the acclaimed restaurant.

See & Do — The best of the city is on your doorstep

Secreted away amid a maze of Melbourne-style laneways, lined with restaurants and drinking dens, The Spire Hotel Queenstown places you in the heart of Queenstown’s cosmopolitan hub. Set just back from the glittering waters of Lake Wakatipu, a short walk from the marina, this five-star retreat is your gateway to the likes of Ivy & Lola’s restaurant and Queenstown Bay Beach.

The Remarkables and Coronet Peak are a 30-minute drive away and the gravity-fuelled Skyline Luge is a short four-minute drive. Here, you can ride a cart around 800m of banked corners, tunnels and dippers… before hopping on a chairlift and doing it all again.

Drive to Glenorchy and immerse yourself in Middle Earth magic with several world-famous hikes including Routeburn Track, one of New Zealand’s Great Walks. For a change of pace, explore Arrow Town’s historic settlement, wandering past restored cottages and gold-mining sites along the river.

For a full-day experience, the majestic Milford Sound is undeniably one of the South Island’s greatest sites. And then there’s the vine-laced hills of Gibbston Valley’s nearby wine country… Trust us, you won’t run out of things to do!

We had a fabulous 3 night stay at The Spire. Every luxury had been taken to ensure our stay was comfortable. The Spire includes a variety of extras to make your stay more luxurious - free mini bar, pre drinks and snacks daily, the use of Queenstown gym, a fantastic daily breakfast, turn down service, daily housekeeping - the list goes on. The staff went above and beyond to ensure every single need of ours was met. They were extremely friendly, making you feel like a friend. The room was extremely spacious, private and had a balcony that overlooked a local park. We will stay here again and highly recommend this hotel.

This was a little bit expensive but ultimately worth every cent. The room was amazing, Bed super comfortable, Clean very spacious with Air conditioning as well as a gas fireplace, balcony, large TV, beautiful decor and a well stocked fridge where all your drinks and snacks apart from alcohol was included in the price and re stocked daily. They also popped in every evening and asked us if we needed any more snacks or drinks. Breakfast was also included in the restaurant as were canapes before dinner. So unlike most Motels i didn't get charged $10 for 60 cent a can a coke... or $20 for a kit kat and a pack of potato chips. In addition to these lovely inclusions, We were greeted to a bottle of bubbly and some Macaroons with a welcome note that said Congratulations on your Wedding anniversary. These people understand the real meaning of the word "Hospitality". Many other Motels should look it up in the dictionary... I have had many horrible experiences... The staff were super friendly from the first phone inquiry to the day we left and asked for a little late checkout... Nothing was a Problem. Located perfectly in the middle of everything i cant thank them enough for an amazing experience. No need to go through booking sites dealing with the staff directly was both pleasant and efficient. If i could give them 6 stars i would....

In theory this should have been a wonderful stay but in reality it certainly wasn’t. What you’d think would have been a fabulous location (because it was close to the beach/lake, botanical gardens, gondola, eateries, bars, shops etc, etc - sounds great right?!) actually turned out to be a bad choice of location. The Spire is located in a quaint little lane way that you’d expect would be quiet BUT, be warned…..The Club (adult entertainment and strip club is located opposite the front door of the hotel) so you get nothing but noise from party goers and thumping music until at least 2:30/3:00 am. The staff were nice, the rooms were good and the turn down service was very good but if you can’t get any sleep then what’s the point of saying you’re ‘on holidays’??? In another location this boutique hotel could have been fantastic but they charge an arm and a leg considering the noise (apparently The Club isn’t open on Monday nights so maybe stay at The Spire then). It’s an ideal place for young people to stay if they want a holiday that involves night clubbing and partying but it certainly wasn’t suitable for us (in our 60’s). No parking is available either so on top of what we already had to pay, we also had a $40 per day parking/valet charge. Sorry The Spire, but did what you charge, we expected to be able to sleep but found all 3 nights pretty bad with Wednesday night being atrocious - would hate to be there on the weekend when things really ramped up.
