Nice rooms- well decorated and clean. However there are a few things I’d change: - a true desk (there was a small round table and chair.) - AC wasn’t as powerful as I hoped - furniture is blocking the center of the curtains so you have to move the table and chairs to close the curtains However I was very glad that when I forgot my razor, concierge had one sent to me immediately. Overall a great hotel

My kids and I had a great experience at the Royal Sonesta. The valet was easy. The bell hop made luggage a breeze. We arrived early and they were able to accommodate us to get us straight into our double bed city view room. It was huge! Had a nice sitting area with couch and coffee table. It was fairly quiet, just heard some sirens from firetrucks a couple of times. It is a great location to everything downtown. Fun to see it on the boat tour. We ate at the restaurant and I was relieved they had a kids menu. The staff were all really nice. I felt safer because you had to use your key card to get to your specific floor. Highly recommend.

We had a great time staying at this hotel during our annual summertime Chicago trip! The location was perfect! We have stayed in many hotels on the downtown area, but the service here was top-notch. I expect front desk staff to be kind, helpful, and personable, but ALL the support staff was very nice and service-oriented. I have never had cleaning staff greet me without being prompted, but that was consistently the case at the Royal Sonesta on the Riverwalk. Our suite was beautiful and very spacious. The only thing that we didn’t love is that the gaps under the room doors are pretty big, so you don’t get that insulation to muffle hallway sounds like you do at most other places. That is the ONLY reason I’m not giving 5 stars. I still highly recommend!

We contracted Royal Sonesta Venue for a $7.5k minimum ($5.5k food & beverage + $2k penthouse), payable regardless of headcount. By 5/23 we had fully paid the $7.5k (three $2.5k payments). On 6/24, the venue confirmed we were only $1.5–$2k away from the F&B minimum; we then selected a bar package (~$2k). On 7/15 they issued a “final invoice” for $2,055.07, which we paid—total now $9,555.07. Our event was 7/26. Two days later (7/28), we received another “final invoice” for $8,000. For ~2 weeks we tried to discuss; catering replied slowly, accounting didn’t reply at all. On 8/4, the catering lead admitted a clerical error but ultimately refused any accommodation, saying they “cannot offer a discount for goods already consumed, services provided, and space utilized.” We asked to escalate; no response—then our card on file was charged on 8/7 without prior alignment. Beyond the unexpected post-event bill, the lack of accountability and communication was the most disappointing. This experience turned what should’ve been a special day into weeks of stress. I would not recommend working with Royal Sonesta as your venue.
