Service is amazing. Everytime we arrived the hotel, one or more members of the staff would come out to greet us with a lot of kindness and enthusiasm. We're vegetarian and the restaurant staff specially went out of their way to prepare vegetable broth soup. Also, the vegetarian Japanese breakfast was really spectacular tasing not to mention really photogenic. Even the American breakfast was great. They have a Noh Theater as a party of the property and their own bamboo garden. And they have their own onsen (spa) and all the necessary dress (Yukata and sandals) in the room and instructions on how to wear them properly.

Our stay at Banyan Tree Kyoto was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality, grace, and attention to detail that truly set this experience apart. The property itself is a serene oasis—beautifully blending traditional Kyoto aesthetics with modern luxury. Every corner feels thoughtfully designed, with tranquil gardens, soothing interiors, and an atmosphere that invites calm and reflection. The service was impeccable. Every staff member we encountered went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, offering personalized care and anticipating our needs with kindness and professionalism. A special thank you to Torako and the amazing concierge team, who went out of their way to make our stay seamless and memorable. They took incredible care in arranging our restaurant reservations and curated thoughtful experiences that reflected the spirit of Kyoto. They also made my birthday truly unforgettable, with heartfelt touches and surprises that added so much joy to the occasion. Their warmth and attentiveness left a lasting impression, and we are deeply grateful. Our room was spacious, elegantly appointed, and offered breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The amenities were world-class, and every touch—from the luxurious bedding to the curated welcome treats—felt meaningful. Banyan Tree Kyoto is more than a hotel—it’s a complete experience of peace, beauty, and exceptional service. We left feeling deeply cared for and already dreaming of our return. Highly recommended for anyone seeking luxury, authenticity, and an unforgettable stay in Kyoto.

Quiet and Luxurious. Fantastic room design with traditional tatami setup. Morden yet with authentic Japanese style. Great service from every service staff, special shout out to MiMi sama. Had breakfast and dinner at the Ryozen. Food was of excellent taste, staff were highly trained and helpful. The whole experience was perfect hence the reason why minor disturbance was so noticeable. However the staff member addressed the situation very well. Highly recommend. 4.5/5 for sure.

Overall, extremely dissatisfied with the experience. For a $1700/night stay, we expected five star treatment throughout and the hotel fell short across the board. I would like to echo some of the prior reviews, that this may be due to early pains of starting out, but the staff was overall unwilling to assist with scheduling, the cleaning service fell short on multiple accounts, and the amenities were quite unimpressive. Pros: -breakfast was phenomenal, as was the waitstaff. High quality ingredients with unique options -gorgeous, very well maintained grounds -spacious room that was very clean upon arrival —sheets were phenomenal —onsen was beautiful —very elegant room layout -location was both a pro and con. Hotel is situated above the tourist area, which sits approximately 0.25 km below. Great in the sense that you’re at the heart of the temples, but it’s an absolute mob scene during the day Cons: -concierge was unwilling or unable to help on multiple occasions —we asked for a 7 PM dinner reservation at 8 AM one morning and received an email back at 6:48 PM with a link to a restaurant saying we should reserve ourselves —we asked for concierge to book train tickets on our behalf. After approving the 15% service fee charged by the hotel, we were told that it would be better if we just did it ourselves —did not know prices to and from airport —continued to pressure us to have dinner at their restaurant despite us expressing interest in pursuing other options -our room was cleaned and dirty dishes were left behind. Towels were not replaced, etc -gym is quite sparse -spa with very limited menu -check in process took approximately 45 minutes, which was quite frustrating after a long day of travel (we arrived at 5 PM, plenty of time for our room to be ready) To be frank, just a very bizarre experience namely due to interactions with concierge. I’ve never had hotel staff refuse to assist with guest needs, and especially wouldn’t expect this from a luxury hotel. For this price, would recommend staying elsewhere .
