Loved our stay here! There is a hotel van that picks you up at the train station and offers scheduled rides to some areas around town :) they had a complimentary happy hour, outdoor pool, and calming, clean (indoor/outdoor) onsen. They also offer breakfast and dinner for a price. Thank you so much (hope to visit from California again)!

What a great experience! The hotel is in a quiet, beautiful location with plenty of nature to explore nearby—perfect for relaxing or hiking. The free shuttle from the train station was a big plus. Our room had a lovely view of the sea. The real standout was the onsen: large indoor bath, outdoor pool, sauna, cold bath—it felt like a mini spa retreat. Breakfast was incredible—huge selection, amazing quality. In the afternoon and evening, the hotel even offers free drinks (yes, including alcohol!) and snacks in the lobby, which was such a nice surprise. But what really made the stay special? The staff. Kind, professional, and always helpful. Just perfect. Would absolutely stay here again!

We had a very nice big room with a great sea view. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The bathroom was a bit small and old. The breakfast was great. They had a lot of options. But it was a little bit expensive (3200yen for breakfast). All in all a very nice place to stay.

Stayed at Mercure Wakayama Kushimoto Resort & Spa and honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it—especially if you’re a foreigner. Check-in was actually decent. The guy at the front desk spoke pretty good English, explained everything clearly, and was friendly when we had questions. No issues there. But the room... was awful. As soon as we walked in, there was this strong, musty old smell. Tried using air freshener but it didn’t help at all. I literally woke up smelling like that room. It’s super outdated and really needs a full renovation. The worst part though was when we checked out around 7:20 AM on June 15. The male and female staff at the front desk seemed fine at checkout, but the moment we stepped away, they started making comments about “gaijin.” I didn’t catch exactly what they said, but honestly, it doesn’t matter. Good or bad, it’s just not okay to talk about guests like that—especially when you're working for an international hotel chain. Really disappointing experience. I wouldn’t stay here again, and definitely wouldn’t recommend it to other foreigners.
