Serenity will find you at this blissfully secluded retreat, set within a 500-acre estate and offering a collection of just seven beautifully designed and exquisitely private luxury villas. Taking its name from the namesake river valley, Maruia River Retreat is surrounded by native beech forest and perfectly kept gardens, ensuring an undisturbed escape from reality with nature as the soundtrack.
At the heart of the retreat, you will find the Main Lodge – a former fishing lodge carefully restored and transformed into a luxurious retreat, where an open space with a contemporary bar, a luxe dining room and the serene Wellness Spa await.
The Villa – A private oasis by the river
Rest deeply in your beautifully designed Luxe Villa (35sqm). Created with ultimate comfort and relaxation in mind, the villa boasts custom-designed furnishings, a plush super-king bed, lush robes and linen, a private balcony overlooking the forest and river, spacious living and dining areas and a brand-new Italian kitchenette, providing a cosy and intimate stay in the midst of the wilderness. Celebrate your escape from reality with a welcome bottle of wine on arrival.
Master Upgrade: Take luxury to the next level when you upgrade to a larger Master Villa (60sqm), fitted with all the fantastic amenities of the Luxe Villa, with the added luxury of a romantic ensuite bathroom with private jacuzzi.
The Food – Daily breakfast and a gourmet picnic
This unique retreat offers stunning dishes made with ingredients and produce sourced from its very own kitchen-garden and from the best the region has to offer.
Days in this idyllic retreat start with a continental breakfast served alongside coffee and tea. You will also enjoy a gourmet picnic hamper filled with local delicacies and seasonal produce to enjoy on a guided walk.
If you don’t feel like cooking in your fully equipped kitchenette, you can retreat to the dining room and savour the best of local fare, with a strong focus on seasonal produce. The menu changes with the season but dishes may include Te Mana Lamb backstrap, Marlborough oysters or Little Biddy Gin rhubarb jelly.

A hub of inspiration and adventure, Maruia River Retreat is an extensive natural estate surrounded by exquisite native beech forests, rugged mountain ranges, gardens and terraces. Experience the estate’s beauty through its remarkable nature trails and mountain biking tracks, including the Braeburn and Lyell tracks in the glorious inner West Coast region.
When you are ready to reach the ultimate relaxation, enjoy your included two-hour relaxation session, including access to the infrared and Finnish sauna, followed by forest bathing in the hot tub. Sink into the outdoor Stoked Hot Tub and unwind as you listen to the sounds of nature.
