The hotel is located right at the zoo and not too far from the city centre. The hotel lobby is renovated but the rooms are bit dated. The toiletries were also the basic dove ones which are same as the holiday inn express. The staff is friendly and even during busy periods very helpful. The car parking is small but I had no difficulties in finding a parking spot though I had checked in late. The breakfast was ok. There were no options to request for eggs etc.

Loved my stay here! I had a family room and the main bed was really comfy but my daughter was not impressed with the smaller bed. The vegan breakfast was very nice, loved all the different foods they had to choose from. The staff seemed to be a bit rushed and stressed which was a shame. Maybe they were understaffed that day! Parking has to be paid for and spaces are limited which is worth bearing in mind. All in all I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again!

The hotel leaves a lot to be desired, stained carpets with smell in the lobby and entrance of the hotel, the bathroom door in the room was broken and peeling, in addition to having to argue with a lady Marta (manager) who said “she was going to do what she could”, that meant only doing the room which hadn’t been done either, the desk lamp didn’t work, the phone didn’t work either, the wifi kept cutting out and finally the average breakfast… I wouldn’t go back, on the same street further on there are better options. Expensive and not at all good. THANKS FOR NOTHING!

Tired hotel, rooms pretty shabby but breakfast ok. However the staff I encountered would not get a job with me! Was woken In the night by a man banging on the door demanding to know why I was in my room, claiming an issue with the booking system and the room shouldn’t be occupied. He wasn’t in any identifiable uniform nor offered any ID. So I didn’t open the door and held a shouted conversation through the wood. Tbh my first instinct, once I recovered from the shock of being woken that way, was this guy is a criminal trying to gain entry to rooms by subterfuge to then rob, or god knows what else, the occupants. He just walked away before the conversation ended. So I called reception to check it was genuine and not some robbery scam. Turns out he was a hotel worker and the system was faulty. At checkout next day I raised the issue, suggesting it would be much less anxiety inducing, and more professional and auditable, for the desk to ring the room in such circumstances. What if it had been a vulnerable traveller, a lone female, older person, neurodivergent etc.? It’s quite scary having some big guy banging on the door when you’re asleep! she bald-faced lied to me saying they had rung, but there was no answer. The second lie was that they had to send someone to the door because they needed to check had I asked for an early checkout. But he never once mentioned that. The she rolled her eyes when I said I had been sleeping, saying it was only just after 22:00 ! I travel extensively around the UK and am in hotels around 200 nights of the year. IHG Edinburgh really are standing out as the worst experience of 2025!
