The golf course – Award-winning golf links on King Island’s picture-perfect coast
Dramatically set on the rugged northern tip of King Island, Cape Wickham is your front-row seat to a spectacle few places on Earth can rival – rolling fescue fairways tumbling towards the Bass Strait, waves colliding against the cliffs and Cape Wickham Lighthouse standing sentinel in the distance. Heralded as Australia’s top golf course by Golf Digest and ranked #14 globally, Cape Wickham’s breathtaking coastal setting and challenging course have cemented its legendary status. With each hole sculpted into the coastline, its fescue greens and undulating fairways are shaped as much by nature as by architects Mike DeVries and Darius Oliver. The layout unfolds from oceanfront par-3s to equally compelling inland holes, culminating in a triumphant 18th that arcs around the cove.
Early risers can step straight onto the course or greet the day with a bracing dip in Victoria Cove, while evenings are best spent on the ‘Lighthouse Loop,’ an artfully designed twelve-hole putting course. Each villa-like room is a haven of modern comfort, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing sweeping ocean views and climate control for when the Bass Strait wind picks up.
Dining at Cape Wickham Clubhouse is next-level, transforming King Island’s finest produce – grass-fed beef, Southern Rock Lobster and artisanal cheeses into feasts worthy of the setting, all paired with a thoughtfully curated selection of Tasmania’s finest wines to toast to an unforgettable game.
